A Primer on Digital Marketing

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be exploring some of the fundamentals for digital marketing. I’ve worked in the marketing field for 5+ years, and the confusion over the terms & acronyms are abundant. My goal is to pull back the curtain to help understand the fundamentals of digital marketing and why it seems digital marketing changes so quickly.

Marketing a brand used to be fairly straightforward - create your design, choose where to place your ads (such as TV or radio), launch your ad campaign, and watch the sales roll in. The world has drastically changed today and brands must stay on top of these tactics to be competitive in their field, to maintain their market share, and to grow their business.

I’ve heard that between 30-50 sales people contact business owners and marketing teams each month. In my time as a marketing manager, I know that my voicemail and email inboxes were always filled to the brim with messages from marketing companies, vying for my attention to spend dollars with them. If you are one of those business owners, then you have likely heard the different acronyms and terms, are confused by what it all means, and whether or not it’s worth your money.
